On the latest episode of What’s Eric Eating, Chef Tim Reading joins host Eric Sandler to discuss Leo’s River Oaks, a fine dining addition to Houston’s restaurant scene. Open since October, Leo’s serves as a culinary counterpart to the iconic River Oaks Theatre.
Leo's River Oaks is a fine dining steakhouse that opened in October along with the rebuilt River Oaks Theatre. Chef Tim Reading has a lot of experience in the kitchen. Reading talked about his journey as a cook and what inspired Leo's vast menu on a recent episode of What's Eric Eating.
After getting better at what he did in Boston's Italian restaurants, Reading went to Houston to start over. At Caracol, he worked with the famous chef Hugo Ortega. After that, he opened Ixím, a Mexican restaurant that Texas Monthly praised. His most recent job as chef de cuisine at Chris Shepherd's GJ Tavern made his name even stronger.
Reading's varied culinary past can be seen in Leo's menu. It serves both traditional and new meals. For example, it has lobster bisque, Caesar salad, and dry-aged steaks, as well as agnolotti, octopus, and bouillabaisse.
Reading talked about how he made the menu: "I wanted to make sure that anyone could come in and pick their own experience." The menu is meant to be understood by the guests, whether they want a traditional steak dinner or something new and different, like our bouillabaisse.
Leo's River Oaks wants to make sure that everyone has a memorable meal, whether they like standard steakhouses or new and exciting foods.
